ORA Engineering Co. LTD. (鈦郁工業股份有限公司) is a manufacturer of bicycle frames and parts, located in Taichung, Taiwan. Founded in 1996, the company initially served as an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM)[1], specializing in producing custom designs for major cycling brands such as Falkenjagd from Germany[2], StarlingCycles from the United Kingdom[3] and Commencal Bicycles from Andorra. ORA Engineering uses titanium fabrication[4], though it also works with stainless steel and chromoly materials[5].
History
[edit]ORA Engineering was established in 1996 by Jim Hsu as a titanium welding factory. The company embraced gas tungsten arc welding techniques, a skill acquired from Japan, marking its initial steps in the industry.
In 2006, ORA co-developed its first bike frame in collaboration with the Taiwanese Titanium bike brand Rikulau, utilizing Reynolds 953 maraging stainless steel. [6].
By 2010, ORA Engineering expanded its operations to a new 3,300 square meter facility in Houli, Taichung. This move featured several eco-friendly initiatives such as wastewater treatment using a chemical coagulation process, the installation of a ventilation system based on Bernoulli's Principle, and the inclusion of high-precision CNC lathe and milling machines. The facility also houses T6 heat treatment furnaces by B.M.I and a bilateral 4-spindle auto milling machine, enabling ORA to maintain a complete in-house production line focused on Titanium alloy.
In 2023, Agnes Hsu, the daughter of founder Jim Hsu, became CEO. This transition marked a new era for the company, which was further recognized that year with the Taiwan Mittelstand Award by the Industry Development Administration (MOEA)[7] of Taiwan.
Tubing types
[edit]ORA Engineering makes various types of tubing, suitable for different applications and performance requirements:
